The first meeting between Adams and Joseph depends upon Josephs similar aptitude for learning compared to similar people his age. One of them is their view on schools. The essential debate comes down to the quality of British public schools. Joseph Andrews throws his support towards public schools. Adams holds a different opinion on this matter, however, which coincides with his position as a clergyman and his devotion to God. Public Schools are the Nurseries of all Vice and Immorality. All the wicked Fellows whom I remember at the University were bread at them, Josephs willingness to contest Adams opinions shows that they must differ in some ways. The simplicity of Adams character is evident in his gullibility compared to Joseph. During one episode, they are promised several extravagant offers by a gentlemen who pretends to be sympathetic to their Case. After giving several excuses that prevent him from following through on his promise, Adams still doesnt understand the situation. This must be a sudden Accident, as the Sickness or Death of a Relation. Adams honestly believes that the man had intentions of honoring his promises. Joseph is less gullible, and know that the man has been playing with them.. Joseph sees through the lies he is being told and falls back upon his greater experience of the world than Adams. Throughout Joseph Andrews, the relationship between Adams and Joseph forms an important element of the story. Their great friendship brings them through difficult times and benefits them both. This friendship is composed of both their similarities, which help them get along, and their differences, which allow each of them to expand the others world view. The relationship would not be as dynamic without the interaction derived from these similarities and differences. In comparison, they devote themselves to God, rise above their peers in moral character, and posses greater learning than their peers. The Hardships Facing Vietnam War Soldiers in Tim O'Brien’s Going after Cacciato and In the Lake of the Woods The Vietnam War was, mentally and physically, one of the most brutal the United States has ever participated in. Our soldiers had to undergo daily miseries and sufferings which wore on them in body and mind. Dysentery was a common cause of physical wasting. Other diseases combined with the continuous rain and mud caused flesh to rot and made daily life that much more insufferable. Long periods of boredom would be broken by unexpected guerilla attacks or booby traps. The enemy rarely materialized long enough to be actively fought or even identified. Equally uncertain as who they were fighting was the answer to the question of what purpose they were fighting and dying for. All of these hardships the soldiers faced caused an overwhelming sense of hopelessness and constant fear. The reason for the lack of such is not of course the federal structure of the united States. In the United States, employees without a written employment contract generally can be fired for good cause, bad cause, or no cause at all; Judicial exceptions to the rules seek to prevent wrongful terminations. The employment-at-wil doctrine is not without ts limits.Terminations initiated by the employer must not be discriminatory or in violation of specific federal or state laws. Finally a minority of states has read an implied covenant of good f aith and fair dealing into the employment relationship. The good faith covenant has been interpreted in different ways, meaning that terminations must be for cause to eaning that terminations cannot be made in bad faith or with malice intended.There are only six western States that recognize all three of the major exceptions and three southern States that do not recognize any of the three major exceptions to employment at will. Remember the public policy exceptions is when an employer may not fire an employee if it would violate the state's public policy doctrine or a state or federal statute. This includes retaliating against an employee for performing an action that complies with public policy as well as refusing to perform an action hat would violate public policy. There are forty-three U.S. states and the District of Columbia recognize public policy as an exception to the at-will rule. In conclusion suits seeking damages for constructive discharge in which an employee alleges th at he or she was forced to resign, and for wrongful transfer or wrongful demotion have increased in recent years. Accordingly, nowadays employers must be weary when they seek to end an employment relationship for good cause, bad cause, or, most importantly, no cause at all.
